Leo XIV doubles down on conviction that Francis is in Heaven
Few want to acknowledge the various ways in which Leo has aligned himself with his infamous predecessor.

Few want to acknowledge the various ways in which Leo has aligned himself with his infamous predecessor.
Leo XIV has doubled down on his conviction that his recently deceased predecessor Francis (Jorge Mario Bergoglio) is in Heaven.
In a post published 22 May 2025 on X, Leo stated:
“Today, in a special way, we remember our beloved #PopeFrancis with deep gratitude, who exactly one month ago returned to the Father’s house. He accompanies us and prays for the Church from Heaven.”
On Sunday 18 May 2025, Prevost made similar comments at the Regina Coeli address. He told crowds gathered in St Peter’s Square that during Mass he “strongly felt the spiritual presence of Pope Francis accompanying us from Heaven.”1
The Catholic Church teaches that when a person dies they are immediately judged in-person by Jesus Christ, the second person of the Blessed Trinity. This judgment will result in the person being…
Condemned to Hell for all eternity
Admitted Heaven for all eternity
Required to spend a period of time in Purgatory, prior to entry into Heaven.
The Church further teaches that in order to avoid Hell and to achieve Heaven, a person must die in a state of grace, united to the Church.
A state of grace requires the supernatural virtue of charity, which is absolutely impossible without the supernatural virtue of faith. “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” (Heb. 11:6)
Pope Gregory XVI also affirmed that the necessity of supernatural faith is itself a dogma of the Catholic faith:
You know how zealously Our predecessors taught that very article of faith which these dare to deny, namely the necessity of the Catholic faith and of unity for salvation.2
Moreover, the Church urges the faithful to pray fervently for the deceased in order that their time and sufferings in Purgatory may be shortened. When the Church canonises a saint, one of the things this confirms is that the soul of the saint is already in Heaven.
While the Conciliar/Synodal Church has made a habit of allegedly canonising its deceased leaders, there are relatively few Catholics likely to advance the idea that Bergoglio was a saint.
His numerous acts of blasphemy, heresy and apostasy include:
Permitting reception of Holy Communion for those engaged in public sins against the sixth commandment
Being present at the worship of a pagan fertility idol within the grounds of the Vatican
Teaching school children that “all religions are a path to arrive at God”
Taking part in pagan ceremonies in Canada
Allowing priests to bless so-called homosexual couples
Indeed, during his lifetime it was possible to conclude with certainty that, due to his public heresy and other arguments, Francis was neither the head of, nor a member of the Catholic Church at all.
There is no evidence that he repented and was reconciled to the Church before his death.
While many online commentators have been quick to highlight the ways in which Leo appears to differ from his infamous predecessor, far fewer have identified the various ways in which Leo has aligned himself with Francis.
Aside from asserting that he is in Heaven, Leo has also expressed his “complete commitment” to the path “followed for decades in the wake of the Second Vatican Council” and cited Francis as “masterfully and concretely” explaining that path.3

Pope Gregory XVI, Encyclical Summo Iugiter Studio, 1832, n. 5.
“In this regard, I would like us to renew together today our complete commitment to the path that the universal Church has now followed for decades in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. Pope Francis masterfully and concretely set it forth in the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, from which I would like to highlight several fundamental points: the return to the primacy of Christ in proclamation (cf. No. 11); the missionary conversion of the entire Christian community (cf. No. 9); growth in collegiality and synodality (cf. No. 33); attention to the sensus fidei (cf. Nos. 119-120), especially in its most authentic and inclusive forms, such as popular piety (cf. No. 123); loving care for the least and the rejected (cf. No. 53); courageous and trusting dialogue with the contemporary world in its various components and realities (cf. No. 84; Second Vatican Council, Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes, 1-2).”
