My apologies if this seems to be a distraction from the core objectives of this article series but it is hearfelt reaction whilst in a certain hightened state of spiritual awareness expected of serious engagement.

1. My response to your headline question: Yes! - my dear wife of 45 years. Some nine years later, on the now rare occasion that I have to tell someone about it for the first time, I still struggle to hold back tears.

2. The unattributed quote by Fr Ambruzzi: "...the pang of all the partings gone; and the partings yet to be" is from Francis Thompsons 1890 poem "The Daisy" which narrates his chance encounter with a 8 years old girl whilst walking on the South Downs. The nature of the parting can hardly compare with the article subject but, as Fr Ambruzzi's use of it illustrates, it does capture the pathos of parting. I mention it because, as most readers here will surely know, Francis Thompson is also the author of what is arguably 'the greatest spritual ode in the English language' - "The Hound of Heaven" - the story of my own life.

I commend both poems - and much more of his literary output - to all serious Catholics

This reading was beautiful and moving, along with all the aids you provide for meditation and prayer. I didn't think I could keep up with this daily series for renewing my consecration, but the high quality of your articles has drawn me back day after day, enriching this Advent so much. Thank you for all you do!
