Your work in promoting Louis de Montfort is very admirable. He is the defender of the Mother of God and the friend of humanity who needs her assistance to attain salvation. If all mankind would follow these precepts, earth would be so much less a moral abyss.

It is unfortunate you have to keep bringing in Newman into these articles given his clear duplicity, his attempts to undermine Pius IX on infallibility and syllabus of errors + more

To make the point clear, in case others might question, just one of his quotes:

“But we must hope, for one is obliged to hope it, that the Pope will be driven from Rome, and will not continue the Council, or that there will be another Pope. It is sad he should force us to such wishes.” (John Henry Newman’s Letter to Fr. Ambrose St. John, August 22, 1870)

I suppose this + many others of a similar nature is why the freemasonic sect currently pretending to be the Catholic hierarchy wishes to make Newman a Dr. of the Church, well their Church at least.

If this was the only quote he made, that should be enough for any Catholic, there is no theological acrobats that can be performed to wash away this quote but there are many more quotes along this line and then of course the rest of it

Short quotations from private correspondence devoid of historical context demonstrate very little.

That was one of many , we can add another to the list ?

We have come to a climax of tyranny. It is not good for a Pope to live 20 years. It is an anomaly and bears no good fruit; he becomes a god, has no one to contradict him, does not know facts, and does cruel things without meaning it. St. John Henry Cardinal Newman (1801-1890), Letter to Lady Simeon, November 18, 1870.

Again there is no acrobatic maneuvers to undo this quote or try to say he was was simply saying that when a pope lives too long that is a bad thing ... and even that in itself ? For him to judge that , so no

But of course we can just ignore the "climax of tyranny" , "he becomes a god" , ok Newman saying a Pope becomes a god , and of course nobody should contradict him ... all of

We can keep going though ?

Do you really think we are unaware of these letters? What we are able to do is see them in their historical context – something we note that you are not providing here at all.

People love judging Newman by things that he said, whilst studiously avoiding considering what he might have been responding to.

We are not going to stop referring to Newman or books that the hierarchy and other Catholics of his time praised. If you don't like that, then you may unsubscribe. But you have made your point, and we don't want to be repetitively nagged about it, please.

To that end, please bear in mind that we do have a comments policy – https://www.wmreview.org/about#§comments-policy – and that at least my patience at being nagged (I can't speak for my co-editor) has limits.

I will be very grateful to re-consecrate myself to Our Blessed Mother after the 33 days leading to Christmas Eve, and my wife will consecrate herself the first time also. Thank you for this effort. All to Jesus through Mary!

Memorable quotes 1. from Newman and 2. from you:

"Carnal minds [he is speaking of Protestants] will ever create a carnal worship for themselves."

"It is not the way of the Church to restrict language to that which will not offend the sensibilities of the lowest common denominator prejudices of the most unreflective anti-Catholics."

A fine response, in defense of our Lady.

There are several methods for consecration to our Lord through our Lady, besides St. de Montfort. Not to diminish him but do other methods, even simpliciter, still 'count' in consecration, for those who as Dom Marmion says, have not (yet?) been given the grace drawing to St. de Montfort?

I'm afraid that question is beyond me! But St Louis is the one with the papal approval etc in the period before up to Vatican II.

I’m happy to see The Foot of the Cross recommended here. I started using it for daily meditation for Lent in 2024 and didn’t finish until Advent when I started The Nine Months by Fr. Coleridge. The Foot of the Cross adds a lot to my meditations for the rosary and Seven Sorrows prayers.

What will the start date for the preparation be?

As a former Protestant, St. Louis de Montfort’s theology is true. I falsely believed Mary would take away from Jesus. But I can attest my devotion to Mary has only increased my love for Jesus. It is true, she will only draw you closer to the Lord.
