In listening to their histories it seems to me that V2 left that generation so scandalised that, instead of applying their God-given reason to what the Church has to say about heresy and authority, they looked emotively to pseudo-authorities supposedly speaking from Heaven. I reckon the Malachi Martin obsession amongst semi-trads falls into this 'apparitionist' type disorder.
